Mekoryuk has struggled with Yur’aq for the last several years. In a small community it sometimes is hard to agree on small things. We are excited to see them back with a vibrant group of youngsters that hopefully will continue this important tradition for years to come!

Their words– “In 1999, through the research efforts of community scholars in Mekoryuk, Nuniwarmiut Cultural Dance was revived. Prior to his passing, Qiawigar, Kay Hendrickson, born in the vicinity of Cingigglag, Nunivak Island, unselfishly left 15 ancient songs. These songs are now exclusively used today by this young dance group.
We need your encouragement for this young generation of dancers to carry and keep the Seal Oil lamp lit for future generations. Quyana to Cama-i and the Bethel Council on the Arts for inviting us!
